Eligible family members, relatives, and other qualifying individuals may provide child care in the child’s home or another approved home setting.

Before Providing Care

Important Program Requirements

Because MBOP Tribal Child Care is federally funded through the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), participating providers must meet applicable program, health, safety, and federal requirements.

Federal Requirement

Background Checks & Fingerprinting

Applicable providers must complete required background checks and fingerprinting as part of the provider approval process.

✓ Required background check results must be received before the provider can begin billing the program.
Safe Child Care

Health & Safety Requirements

Providers must meet the health and safety requirements that apply to their provider type and child care setting.

✓ Additional forms, inspections, or documentation may be required depending on the type of care provided.
Program Restriction

Accredited Private Schools

MBOP Tribal Child Care cannot issue child care subsidy payments to accredited private schools.

! Families should work with their Case Manager if they are unsure whether a selected program is eligible.
Before Care Begins

Provider Approval & Authorization

Completing provider paperwork does not by itself authorize child care services or payment.

✓ Providers should receive authorization from MBOP Tribal Child Care before providing services that will be billed to the program.
Important

Background Check Timeline

Providers who are required to complete a background check must complete fingerprinting within the required program timeframe. Background check results must be received before billing can begin.

Questions About a Payment?
An Important Difference

MBOP Tribal Child Care Operates on Enrollment

Provider reimbursement is based on the child’s authorized enrollment rather than daily attendance. An enrolled child’s absence does not automatically prevent a provider from billing for the authorized period of care.

Payments cannot be issued for future services. Even when care is authorized in advance, MBOP Tribal Child Care can only issue payment after the applicable child care service period has occurred.
